As Forbes reports, the top 3% of Americans own about $20.6 trillion, or about $4,200 for every person in the country.
The top 5% own about an additional $8,600.
That’s roughly 1.3 times the median household income in the United States, according to the Census Bureau.
That wealth disparity, as Forbes notes, is more than twice the wealth gap between the top 0.01% and the bottom 99%.
It’s one of the main reasons the United Kingdom’s financial sector is so dysfunctional, as a whole, compared to the U.S. It’s also the reason the U,S.
is the richest nation in the world.
